AND
The audience….. listen to the audience…… They are shouting as if they were at an average death-metal-concert. They are applauding as if there is no tomorrow. So the musicians play at their best.

This is a very very good recording of Thelonious! There is a cool interplay between John Ore (playing his unique drag-hop-style) and Thelonious Monk.

Fatty George – A Tribute To Vienna (1958)

Fatty George – clarinet
featuring:
Joe Zawinul – p
Oskar Klein – tr
and many more
This is the very best recording of the viennese legend FATTY GEORGE!
The Story about this Disc:
In 1958, the Austrian Radio asked the well-known Fatty George to produce 80 titles “easy-listening” – music (for filling pauses), but he had to choose only austrian songs or songwriters. So Fatty George set up his band, featuring Joe Zawinul (those are Zawinul’s exactly last records before going to the USA to join Cannonball Adderley), Oskar Klein and more, and turned this set to a not-easy-listening cool piece of Jazz-Music: He took traditional viennese folk songs and mixed it with his two favourite styles: Cool Jazz and Dixieland.
Those are the last surviving 12 Tracks, because the other 68 had already been deleted by the Radio-Station. (Great done, stupid!) The last song is a live-recording feat. Al “Fats” Edwards on voc.
Fatty George plays very melodic, but never easy!

Thelonious Monk – p
Charlie Rouse – sax
Larry Gales – b
Ben Riley – dr
Rec. on 14 & 21 Dec 1967 and 14 Feb 1968
Wow! Not only the cover is fascinating, but the complete recording. Monk never composed that much in his lifetime, so it’s verry interesting that this album has many compositions he did not play that often.
This is one of Monk’s best albums!

Yeah, this will pull you out of a very very big Jazz-Crisis!
Charles Mingus – Oh Yeah (1961) with Bonus Track

This is not the proletarian LP cover, this is the ‘88 CD-Edition with Bonus Track

Nesuhi Ertegun – interviews Charles Mingus, then his secretary comes and says, that Mr Ertegun has to go and Charles Mingus interviews himself.
Musicians:
Charles Mingus – piano (!)
Rahsaan Roland Kirk – sax, fl,siren etc.
Booker Ervin – tenor sax
Jimmy Knepper – trombone
Doug Watkins – b
Dannie Richmond – dr
Recorded on 6 Nov 1961
Oh Yeah! There’s a lot to tell about this album. First: Mingus is not playing the bass, but piano. Second: He’s shouting “Oh Yeah” at least 20 times per track. And: there’s a rare interview that tells everything…..
I do not know if this is the best Jazz – record ever, or if this is the best record ever.
I think that everybody in the whole world should listen to this album, and then humankind will have a spiritual evolution and there will be no more wars and so. But that’s my personal opinion.
